The celebs were out in full force at New York Fashion Week. Major confusion at the Marc Jacobs show when photographers were torn between taking pictures of the clothes (the obvious choice) or the hoard of celebrities. Perez Hilton wearing a self-designed tee, Madonna, Anna Wintour (with daughter Bea) and Lady Gaga all turned up. Blake Lively and Michelle Trachtenberg, aka Serena and the evil Georgina from Gossip Girl were front row at Diane Von Furstenberg. The sister-duo from Rodarte showed off their swathed, strapped and strewn creatures to the likes of Kirsten Dunst and Natalie Portman.

The Arise African Promise show was held last week Friday at New York Fashion Week. Four designers, including our very own David Tlale, took to the runway to showcase the best of African talent. Models on the ramps included Chanel Iman, Tyson Beckford, Freha Bejah and Coco Rocha. The standout of the show was Jewel by Lisa. Both the NY Post and Women’s Wear Daily praised the collection for its bold colours and urban craftsmanship with an African edge. To see photos of the collections and pouting models, click here.

One of my favourite things about the Vogue UK site is that every day it goes back in time to reveal the juiciest stories in fashion history. September has had some great moments. For instance in 2004, Brazilian glamazon Gisele Bundchen first spoke out about the infamous storming of the Victoria’s Secret show by animal rights activists PETA. In case you missed it, here’s a great video. Apparently the now pregnant model thought she was going to get hurt. In all fairness she did profess to be a huge animal lover and then signed up as the face of Blackglama, a fashion label with a major penchant for fur. Wish PETA had chosen a more appropriate time, though! Also in 2004, Burberry announced that it would not stop making their baseball caps. The iconic plaid caps were favoured by football hooligans, WAGS and chavs was said to greatly bring down the brand and even lead to the headwear being banned in some British pubs.

Could the Birkin have some competition? As far as iconic bags go, hardly. But you can bet there are some fashionistas out there who are dying to get a hold of these bags. If you’re an ardent fan of Marc Jacobs or Karl Lagerfeld, you can now carry your adoration close to your heart. These tote bags are adorned with the faces of the designers as well as the things they are most known for — like the Chanel 2.55 and plaid shorts. Better hurry though, the Karl bag has sold out due to popular demand.
